Stirred not Shaken…

Hey look, its a one of “those days” blog post… Woke up to find my blog (and twitter) had been hacked, I guess I should be grateful they only posted a spam ads about making $$$ and nothing more… So changing passwords and a temporary new theme to hold me over, till I sort it all out… A dot point email from the ex about Xmas new years arrangements that I am not in the mood to decipher the passive aggressive parts from the tricks, so that can wait…

A visit to op-shops at lunch time… just to kill time… Spent a grand total of $6… you can decide how to split that up between the three items….

an old dress makers ruler… that will probably be embedded into my new double width desk…. might be handy to be able to measure stuff or take photo’s for eBay….

Yet another old suitcase…. My house is starting to look like the baggage claim room at central railway station, circa 1950…. and that is not that bad a thing… maybe on the next train trip to the city I will make the whole family travel with vintage luggage….

A last, but not least… a battery-powered cocktail mixer… just like the one I had when I was 8… No really, I bought one just like this at a church fete, and used it to mix my chocolate milk at my father’s house on weekends… I guess that may have been a clue about what kind of child I¬†was…. and still am…

Yet more Baggage….

Is there an irony to fact that less emotional baggage I am carrying, the more baggage I find? Probably….

This is a big one…. over a meter wide… and should clean up well…. It’s last trip was to the High Commission of Australia in Kuala Lumpur…

Which is kind of cool… So I will probably seal this sticker on…. I also picked up a large bag of vintage fabric for $5 at the same time… I Since all the luggage I still have in the house is filled with vintage fabric already it is lucky I found another case to put the new lot in…

I guess there is about 40meters of fabric… and about 10meters of this one… I am always a sucker for any fabric that they bother to name the designer on…

It’s good to be the Picnic King…

I dragged the kids out for the some fresh air and op-shopping today…. I figured 4 days in pyjamas was probably going to be considered a bit lazy, even for me….

A couple of dollars each for some old Singer sewing machine drawers… I have a dream of finding a pile of 100+ of them and making the coolest cabinet in the world for my hall…

… and $10 got me three new suitcases… two large and one that was the picnic set… Picnic King just sounds awesome…

These are a great shape and all match… I may need to start thinning out the suitcases soon… Every bookcase has a set on top and all the beds have a few underneath…

Or I could just build a wall of shelves that fit them… hmmmm…

We all have Baggage…..

…. and for the first time in a very long time mine is neatly stowed in the overhead racks… Not on a plane, but on the old trains with the cool brass and wire racks….

Old suitcases are getting harder to find, or at least the 30s and 40s ones are… But these 50s ones are still being ignored by most… So $5 for the pair, and I have some seriously solid under bed storage… Yes I could have paid over $20 for a plastic tub to go under the bed from a chain store… but these work even better… its almost like they were made to store clothes in ūüėČ

Fully lined and even has places for my delicates… well if I had frilly things i could put them in those nifty frilly thing holders……..

The big red one will most likely end up under my daughter’s bed, filled with toys…. and pretty girl things….

Bad Boy and a Lazy Blogger…..

I have been both this week… The irony of having an insanely¬†busy week, with lots of interesting things going on every day, and then not writing about it, is not lost on me…. I will do better this week, I swear….

Not in the mood to play catch-up at the moment¬†so I will just fill you on the weekends trip… well the thrifting aspect of it… I left town with a back pack and a car full of chairs….

First stop to deliver ten sebel¬†stack a bye chairs to Lithgow… after that 4 more chairs and 6 industrial lampshades to Springwood…. My entire trip is funded by the items I delivered on the way…

Thrifting¬†as I went, yielded¬†nothing particularly amazing, but I did get to re-stock my wardrobe on the cheap…. and I got a suitcase for $10 to put my new outfits in… I loved the looks I got checking into a fancy hotel with this suitcase…

If you want to attract movie star attention on your next trip, don’t waste money on expensive italian luggage… Rock up for check-in in a black t-shirt, vintage ray-bans and a tatty¬†old suitcase…. Live that rock’n’roll life….

I picked quite a few pairs of jeans(5) , including a pair of brand new RM Williams jeans for $3.50,¬†at least $120¬†retail… ¬†A nice light green Rodd & Gunn shirt for $2.50…. A pair of Timberland¬†Earth Keepers boots, never worn for $35. Not cheap for thrifting¬†but very cheap compared to the $200+ retail tag… and my other favourite item, a Dangerfield Coat from the clearance section of a major chain store, down from $180 to $40…..

A good weekend for my wardrobe, if nothing else… I also found a vintage bowling shirt from a tournament in Las vegas… Luckily Ten-Pin bowlers are the one group of athletes I can fit into clothes from….
