It is all Yellow….

I have been a slack blogger…. It would be nice to blame this on being busy, or depressed, but it is both and neither… I am pushing ahead with house-hunting and packing, and boxes and real-estate websites have been occupying the part of my brain that is normally reserved for over-thinking and over posting… I took the day off from all that yesterday for a drive in the countryside with the kids, a visit to a park and only one op-shop along the way…. I spent $2 on candlesticks…

This is the after shot…. 10 layers of wax and grime had to be removed first, revealing an amazing pair of mid-century ceramic candle-sticks…. This was one of those learning on the job for the kids moments, their initial confusion at me getting all excited about some manky bits of pottery  gave me the opportunity to show them what I saw… With a lot of cleaning and a nice photo they could see the end product, and I explained this is what I saw when they were covered in filth at the bottom of a box… I think they got it….

Day 17 – Mostly 2nd Hand Shops….

No finished project today, yet…. But a very quick trawl of op-shops today turned out to be well worth the effort….. First Bargain, a brand new in the box decor cask cooler for $2…

I normally sell these for between $10-$20 depending on the colour… But with my approaching birthday party I will probably keep this one, and put it to use… I also found an instrument sterilizer…. full working and very medical…

It will look great with my vintage barbers chair…. and $5 was a steal…. a similar new one is $100s and does the same job…. It will look even better all polished up with some nice shiny piecing equipment in it…

For the mid-century MAD MEN fans…. how about something for your den…. $5 and probably a bit of paint….

This would look better with a 1950s copy of PLAYBOY in the magazine rack….. Also in the items that are to cool to by-pass was this floor lamp….

In Hermes orange, and in need of the smallest of repairs (new plug and replacement screw for the lamp arm)…. This was well worth $5…. not sure if it will work in my house, so I will fix it and see….

The last purchase of the day is more practical than hipster…. But $5 for the pair, and I couldn’t say no….

They could use a tweak or two, maybe paint? but they are solid and the canvas is perfect…

So all in all a good day to buy the junk people throw away…. $22 is not much for all this good stuff is it? Has any one else got their Womble on today?

Late Night Update –

My internet has been out since about 3…. I wonder if it had a good time? So I am passing off a quick paint job on a deck chair as a project….

I will paint the other one tomorrow….. The entertaining area of the yard seems to be heading down this path…. and why not…. it will fit in very well with my Mad Men style birthday party….

Make sure the Candy is in the Original Wrapper….

Today I bought a chair… Not a remarkable statement for me… My name is Shayn…. and I am a Chair-O-holick!!!! And although cool, it is not a remarkable a chair, it looks like this….

Maybe I am getting a little jaded, but a saucer chair barely gets the pulse rate up these days, even an older original wicker one…. So money changed hands and it was about to go in the back of the wagon, when the seller says do you want the cover for it… I say “Cover?”… he says yes it had a cover on it when I got it but I didn’t like the colour….”Ok I say”… thinking I would just use it to protect the chair for transport, assuming it was just a home-made bit of fabric to go over the top….

It wasnt some homemade number…. It was an original era optional cover….. That got the pulse rate up…
