Day 106 – Show-’em Your Bols…

Bols is the oldest distillery brand in the world, 1575… This bottle is probably 1960s and don’t worry it was empty when I found it…

Day 84 – The Devil is in the Details…

‘The path of my life is strewn with cow pats from the devil’s own satanic herd!’…. Or in the case of today, bureaucratic nonsense and hoops to jump through, and distract me from doing something useful… I worked in a government job for a while, literally rubber stamping forms… It was the kind of job that made it very clear “you are here to trade your time for cash”, needless to say it didn’t take me long to realize that wasn’t a good deal….

After that I wandered for a while…

Not all those that wander are lost, sometimes they just don’t have anywhere to be for a while, so they are just killing time till they have to be somewhere…

I have somewhere to be, but not for a little while, so I am kind of wandering with a direction… Maybe that’s why dealing with the aforementioned bureaucrats today was so annoying, I was back in a creative mood… Nothing kills creativity like ticking two hundred boxes and trying to remember if I have a million dollars worth of shares I neglected to mention in question 143…. So I stopped at the op-shop on the way home and purchased an imp….

Day 26 – Describe a Spiral Staircase….

Its one of those universal things, ask someone to describe a spiral staircase and they will make a circular motion with their finger, as they do.. As a downward stroking motion from the the chin will ensue, if you ask them to describe a goatee beard… This has nothing to do with anything, other than I have been watching Derren Brown DVDs today, in an attempt to seize control of the world through mind control… But instead of learning to be some kind of Sven Jolly (seinfield reference) I just took a nap on the couch… I suspect I take far to many naps to actually seize control of anything other than the TV remote, so you are all probably safe from my megalomaniacal rule.. Though I am sure the world would be a much better place under my control, there would be a lot less football and much more antique roadshow on TV for a start!!!!

Here is a picture of the steps/stairs I bought today… So yes all that first paragraph was just a justification for todays title and this picture…

photo-140

Well yes, you say, I guess that could be loosely linked to “a staircase”…. You might continue “But seriously as a segway that is really pushing it, I mean the explanation of a describing a spiral staircase was interesting and all, but the spiral thing is pretty spurious isn’t it?”…. and I would be quite cheerful, because you will have fallen right into my trap, as I have bought two of these in the last couple of days…

So just shake my hand and say “well played sir, well played” and be on your way, with the knowledge I have bested you again….

Back in the saddle…

Starting to get back in the swing of mountain life, and also got to do a bit of op-shopping yesterday…. and it was just a bit, in spite of the quantity of stuff I found…

photo 1-1

An original Kartell storage unit… They still make these, but not in this colour, and in my opinion not of the same quality… I purchased this from an antique shop for less than half the price i have seen them in a local vinnies op-shop… so it counts as thrifting 😉

photo 2-2

The not so drab green, Splendid by Olympia… I am very bad at passing up typewriters, especially if they are interesting colours….

photo-88

I have the same issue with scales… A nice little 70s Persineware with its original bowl…

photo 4-1A funky original paisley lamp shade for one dollar… I have a base in the shed that will work with this one…

photo 3-3

A lamp base that will end up as steampunk project… and a vintage hem measuring device, which will probably be put to use as an aid for scale in pictures of items being photographed for sale…

photo 1-2

I sold one of these a while ago… and now I have another… The willow brand budget tin, from an era when bills could be payed by saving coins…

photo 2-1

An art deco plane that has seen better days… It may be rescued or repurposed…

photo 4-2

Another pile of vintage SUBBUTEO table soccer players to add to the large box I already have… They have been on my “to sort” list for years… They need to go into teams and be identified, some are worth a few dollars, but some teams are worth a lot… So they will sit for a while longer till I feel particularly OCD…

photo 3-2

…and the find of the day… An old paper dispenser from a store… I have been searching for one of these for a long time.. I dream of one day having a little shop that allows me to wrap things in brown paper and string… Not enough gets wrapped these days….

Separation Anxiety….

I have been filling a box with comics, so todays title comes to from an issue of Venom/Spiderman, and not that I am splitting the work/life parts of my life finally… On advice from my therapist (and everyone else) I have made the commitment to remove the selling part of my world from my home… I have a big empty storage unit…

Photo2-97

….Well I had an empty unit, now I have a slowly filling unit…… I am hoping it is kind of a snowball thing, the more I sort and put in boxes the easier it gets…..

Photo3-83

It has been quite slow to start…. Since the idea is to sort, edit and store stuff… Getting a whole box of one type of thing, say vintage silver teapots, shouldn’t be as easy as it is…. But as I got started filling boxes with similar themed stuff got easier and faster…..

Photo4-47

I am working on the plan of most valuable stuff goes in first, that way if I do start to run out of room I am not going to feel bad about donating the overflow of cheaper stuff to a local charity…. It is also helping me get the idea that I have enough stuff to sell to fund my relocation in a stress free way… Raising the moving funds was stressful, so I will repay the moving funds instead… Much easier that way…

Photo1-334

Next week I will attempt to get the shelving system in to allow maximum use of space, and the wall on the right will take the remaining 70 boxes of collectables…. 100+ boxes of “stock seemed a little daunting, but now as it gets sorted I am less worried… The idea of being able to just pull a box or 5 off the shelf to fill up the market stall table is as reassuring, as the fact I have just put 6 vintage 60s floor lamps in storage is concerning… but it is progress…
