Day 117 – The Case of the Full Cart…

I was filling my imaginary shopping trolly with books at about 2am last night… Not buying, just doing the internet equivalent of window shopping… It is like getting the rush of retail therapy without the buyers remorse… But what I did notice is there was a touch of the Sherlock Holmes about the basket, not the novels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I already have those… I had chosen three books on knots, one that gives you ten methods to expand your attention span, mastering Mnemonics and a book on locksmithing…

I have become a little obsessed by learning pointless little skills at the moment… Maybe it’s the giving up smoking? (51 days and counting)… Lot of extra time in the day without frequent coffee and nicotine breaks, actually a truly scary amount of extra time… Time that requires distracting the brain and keeping the fingers busy, since I have also cut tv viewing to the bone, with the exception of the several different versions of Sherlock Holmes (including the new series of Jonathan Creek), and episodes of grand designs I haven’t seen too often… So with no smoking, drinking, girlfriend or television I have quite a lot time to dedicate to increasing my ever more esoteric set of skills and knowledge… Sorry to digress but remember the world before google? When a head full of pointless triva was something that couldn’t be trumped by a hipster with wifi? Just saying… But anyway I have a cup of camomile to drink and some Sherlock Holmes themed memes to make (did I mention the keeping busy thing?)….

Day 114 – Take a Long Line…

One comes in one goes out, tonight I purchased a new tv unit… 3 meters long…

My continuing obsession with low furniture and clean lines continues, I think painting the metal satin black and replacing the metal panels with lacquered ply will give it a more midcentury feel… Which means the more industrial eclectic school science desk will be leaving to make room…

Day 75 – Boxing Clever….

Ideas are like buses, there is always another one… and if you had to travel on a bus you could still take this idea with you….

This was a great find, but ironically I have all the parts to build several of these already…. Thos one will get a paint job and a new handle etc… I like the idea of having a custom one for a variety of jobs… One for selling moody watches at train stations, another with a tattoo set up and maybe be even one selling art prints on the sea front…. The ideas are only limited by the amount of old british sitcoms you watch…

DAY 57 – THE RABBIT HOLE….

This is my rabbit hole, the place were I can scamper off to when I need to get my head in a more creative place, without the distractions of washing up and rampaging children…I even managed to wire up the light fitting, by cannibalising an extension lead… This will be the only room in the house that gets to stay in this “hobbit” eclectic style, but since it very small (200cm by 160cm), and it is separate to the rest of the house, so it can remain a cosy, cluttered space…

Of course there will be a few tweaks, a couple more pictures on the wall and a wire or two across the wall to hang current projects on… Hopefully it will fulfil its purpose, and create a flurry of creativity…

Day 50 – It bends in the middle…

Imagine an old time carnival, now imagine a carousel, now replace the beautifully painted wooden horses with furniture…. Welcome to my world of revolving furniture…

Last week I moved my computer to a more function desk, which meant temporarily moving the 1900s farmhouse table, that I was using as a desk out onto the verandah till I could find somewhere else for it… Cue a week of misty rain and damp… I know have somewhere to put the table, but I also now have a table with a bowed top…

So today I moved the table back inside and piled it high with large art books and cast iron shoe lasts…

Hopefully it will flatten out… Because I have zero desire to remove the top, brace it, glue it and spend two days doing a job that shouldn’t need to be done…

PS – If I seem to be making the blog version of small talk at the moment it either means things are going well, or very badly…. Either way I am not ready to talk about it….
